Ceilings are set out from the reflected ceiling plan, so lighting, diffusers, sprinklers and access panels land where the drawing puts them rather than wherever the grid happens to fall. Where a ceiling carries a fire or acoustic rating the build-up is detailed to match it — board type, layers, insulation, perimeter — and every service through it is sealed accordingly. On cladding and panelling, joints, shadow gaps and material changes are set out to line through with the openings and ceiling lines around them; on book-matched stone and figured timber the layout is planned from the slab or the bundle, because the pattern has to be resolved before anything is cut.
